Celebrations
As part of our Inquiry about Celebrations we have researched the above questions and compared what features are the same, what features are different between Diwali and Chinese New Year. We also made Rangoli patterns which made our room very colourful.
Birthday cakes
As part of our Inquiry we designed and made a birthday cake using coloured paper. Some of them look good enough to eat.

Making and Melting Ice
We made ice by pouring water from our drink bottle into a seal it bag. Mrs Dijkstra froze it in the kitchen chest freezer. We then observed what changes had taken place and the effect salt and water had on the ice. We held it in our hands. It made us shiver!

The Olympic Torch
Today we made Olympic torches with the help of Mrs Bushill. We learned that the colours - yellow, blue and green are the colours of Brazil. The wavy shapes represent the sky, the mountains, the sea, and the ground. The triangular shape is a reminder of the Olympic values - excellence, friendship and respect. The torch is about 63 cms tall and is made of recycled aluminium. Mrs Dijkstra thought it was very special that the torch held so much meaning.
Black Out, Two Can Day
Last Friday we dressed in black to support our Olympian Team. Also the school Councillors visited our room and asked us to bring along one or two cans of food to donate to the Auckland City Mission. They collected in 1,100 cans. Well done Room 24 for helping to achieve such an amazing result.

Learning about our needs and wants
Today Room 24 were shown NZ coins and notes. We put them in order. We also talked about wants and needs. The speaker told us to "speed for our needs and wait for our wants" He told us about his pet goldfish and how it wanted a castle in it's fishbowl. He acted out the story, it was really funny!

Ronald MacDonald visits
Yesterday Ronald MacDonald visited Sunnyhills School to tell the Junior School about Road Safety. He taught us a song about "Making it click" and talked about how to cross a road safely. He said that he had come to Sunnyhills because he was looking for his lost sock.
